Byster Lake, Brooksville, Florida: This is one of my favorite places to visit when in Florida. It is a small lake in between housing developments, and it never ceases to give me good photo ops. The American Lotus waterlily abounds in this shallow lake. Its seed pods are used in flower arrangements, and are food for wood ducks and mallards. The apple snail is a prolific egg layer and you can see clusters of bright pink eggs up the sides of trees, on the lily stalks, and anywhere there is a vertical surface above water.
