Informal survey of vehicles passing by the house: The other day, while at a doctor’s appointment, I noticed that there was about a 3:1 ratio of SUVs to passenger cars in the parking lot. So, today I decided to take a 1 hour survey of all the vehicles passing the house from 1:40 pm to 2:40 pm. My results were surprising to me. There were 44 SUV/Trucks/Minivans and 43 cars/motorcycles that passed by; a 50:50 split. Now, if we can only get the ratio to be a 25:75 split, we might start seeing some reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. Unfortunately, there were no hybrids that passed by, although there were 7 motorcycles. I am hoping that if I were to do the same survey in a few years, that the ratio would change. Drew and I would love to own an electric vehicle for our next auto purchase. We are saving our pennies toward 2012 and hope to have a few electric auto brands to choose from.
