Kasha loves vegetables: Kasha looks forward to my arrival home from work each day so that she can munch on fresh green beans and cherry tomatoes. She will race me to the garden with a huge grin on her face, and her hind end wiggling like crazy. She has also taken a liking to nosing around the potted cherry tomatoes that we are growing on the front deck. I have had to tie them to the railings so she doesn’t knock them over during her investigations.

Mighty Huntress Slideshow: Kasha fashions herself a mighty huntress of chipmunks. She spends many hours “hiding” next to the stump that the chipmunks and red squirrels use as a feeding station. Little does she seem to realize that she is in full view of the wily rodents!

Zoe: Zoe is lying in wait for Kasha to relinquish her red rubber ball. Zoe will then run home with it to proudly show Ernie her new treasure. Zoe is a master pilferer of Kasha’s toys.

Painting your lawn…What is the world coming to?: I guess this practice has been around for quite some time for golf courses, real estate foreclosures, etc., but now it is becoming popular with homeowners. Apparently, the paint will last 3-4 months on your dead lawn. Hmmm…these people haven’t lived up north where our grass is dormant for 7 months of the year! There have got to be better things you can do with your money than spend several hundred dollars on painting your lawn! These people would be better off planting a native ground cover than grass as the ground  cover would be acclimated to the native environment.  (http://www.turfpainters.com/index.html)

Elliot: Today, we visited with our friend Elliot. He is 2.5 years old, and is the second sweetest chocolate lab (besides Kasha’s buddy, Zoe) that we have ever met.

Brother Gary is in South Africa: Drew’s brother, Gary, flew to Johannesburg and then traveled south to the city of Bloemfontein, with a rugby team that he befriended in Virginia. They are basing out of the family compound of a famous South African heart surgeon. Gary, the mega hunter, is going to be in hunter heaven as he will be able to hunt on the compound, and will go outside it for other hunting trips, in between rugby matches. This is his dream trip of a lifetime! If all goes well, he will try to get me a sand sample or two on his trips!
Bloemfontein (fountain of flowers) is the capital city of the Free State Province of South Africa, as well as one of the nation’s three capitals, the judicial capital. It is popularly known as “the city of roses”. It is situated on a dry grassland at an altitude of 4500 feet above sea level. It is generally flat with occasional hills, and the general vegetation is Highveld grassland. It experiences a continental climate, with hot summer days (January), and cooler dry winters (July). As I write this post, the nighttime temp. is 38F. Tomorrow, Bloemfontein will have a high of 53F and a low of 32F. Humidity will be around 55%. Nice! Perfect for hunting!
